How to get people to sign up for your 10k? Here are two easy steps:
- Have it be on a beautiful forest trail in the redwoods
- Have firemen serve PANCAKES
There. That’s all you need!
The trail takes you around by the river; quite lovely on this diffused lighted morning. At about mile three it starts going UP. It continues in this vein until what, mile four? So there was mostly hiking during that part and the sound of a lot of heavy breathing.
The rest of the run is smooth trails, slightly rolling, and a lot of descending, which feels kind of powerful. I kept a steady pace throughout, and most importantly, kept my breathing in the “not-asthma” range. So though I was working hard, I was not struggling for air. Yay!
The racers definitely became more conversational as we descended, and as we neared the finish line I was not able to hide my motivation for running. Conversation pattern for miles 4.5-6:
blah blah blah …and PANCAKES blah blah blah …and PANCAKES blah blah blah ..also PANCAKES blah blah …did I mention we get PANCAKES
And then the finish line, cheer for friends, get T-shirts, get in car, go to fire station, EAT PANCAKES!!!!!
!!!!!!!!
So fun. See you there next year!
