Big Basin to Sea, 12 mile run Nov. 2008

Ok, so right after the Big Sur Half Marathon I got a cold for two weeks. One day after I started feeling better, my evil friends decided to run the last part of the Skyline to Sea trail, starting at Big Basin headquarters and ending at Waddell Creek and hwy 1– the beach!

I had run it before, and remembered it to be a really fun, very beautiful downhill slope, but what I failed to remember was that there is quite alot of climbing in there too!

Probably I should not have run this far so close to having been sick, as I trailed the group and was DONE by the end, but it was fun anyway. This post is more of a photo gallery than an article. Highlights of the trail were the sun streaming through the trees, deep redwood forest, creek crossings, some fall colors and the sighting of a California Newt! They are slow, but it is still a challenge to get a clear photo. Some photos I didn’t stop to take, but I think the motion blur actually paints an accurate picture of my experience.

Side note: Stacey and Helen turned around at the bottom of the trail and ran back, about 24 miles. Helen then ran some more for a grand total of 31. Claire and Lori and I went and got burgers.
